Anthony Sylvestre, SC was reappointed Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs of Belize by Prime Minister Honourable John Briceno on 17 March, 2025 following general election in Belize. He previously held the office from July, 2023 to 12 March, 2025.
He is a graduate of the University College of Belize, the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School, Jamaica, W.I.
He is both a civil and criminal law practitioner with over twenty years experience and was elevated to the status of Senior Counsel in February, 2025.
He was a high school teacher before becoming an attorney and later served as a Crown Counsel in the Director of Public Prosecutions Office and then Director of the Legal Advice & Service Centre (Legal Aid Centre).He has also served on a number of bodies, including as a Director of the Belize Electricity Limited and the Belize Infrastructure Limited, as Chairperson of the Labour Complaints Tribunal and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Belize, where he was an adjunct lecturer between 2010 and 2019.
He has also served on the Belize Advisory Council, the Income and Business Tax Appeals Board, the Policy and the Legislative Sub-Committee of the National Aids Commission, the now defunct Belize Advisory Council on the Guatemalan Claim, the Board of Management of Maud Williams High School and as an Executive Member of the Bar Association of Belize. He also served as a Senator in the National Assembly.
